Friday freedom

Friday marks the last day of free time before the competition starts in earnest. Having caught up on some sleep after the journey over from the UK, the students spent the day exploring the attractions Houston has to offer in the way of malls and amusement parks at the Kemah Boardwall.

Anita E Gale, Co-Founder of the ISSDC

An evening meeting for the advisers (the competition’s name for the teachers/parents/adults that accompany each team of students) at Anita’s house provided the competition programme and a press release preview of tomorrow’s RFP. For those of you who may not know, Anita Gale is the lady who, along with husband Dick Edwards, founded the International Space Settlement Design Competition. She is also the person who comes up with the Request For Proposal documents that cause generation after generation of students to tear their hair out in wonder and frustration. The challenge at this international final? A floating settlement 34 miles above the surface of Venus.
