It is often said that the UK Space Design Competition is not just a competition, but a journey. A physical journey from your school or science club to London (and maybe NASA) and a personal journey in which you will meet several exciting challenges and make dozens of new friends, both of which will serve you well in the months and years to come. Many of our former students are still in contact with friends made at the competition, and many have mentioned the competition in apllications to university.
This page summarizes the journey made by UK Space Design Competition participants in 2009.
Stage 1: The UK Space Design Competition Final 2009
The 2009 competition was a prototype competition run with a very different format to subsequent events. Schools were invited to answer three space related questions with Riddlesdown Collegiate being invited directly to the 16th International Space Settlement Design Competition which took place form from 31 July to 4 August 2009.

Stage 2: The 16th International Space Settlement Design Competition
Students from Riddlesdown Collegiate participated in the 16th International Space Settlement Design Competition in summer 2009. Although they didn’t win, the students had a fantastic time and have been recurring faces at the UK Space Design Competition ever since.
