5 ways to Support UKSDC
Donate time as a volunteer; Donate to our medals appeal or our general appeal; Industry sponsorships; Industry/University partnerships or Commission an event.
The UK Space Design Competition is only possible thanks to generous financial and practical support from a variety of individuals and organisations. We warmly welcome any offers of help and assistance, big or small, from school groups, parents, industry sponsors right through to major industry in-kind donations. Contact San Hession at [email protected] or Jenny Lyons at [email protected] for information on how you can participate with time, money, in-kind donations, expertise or commissioning private events: it all assists us to keep the UKSDC free to UK schools.
Volunteer your time: open to students, adult veterans, industry supporters and parent/chaperones
We rely on a small army of dedicated volunteers working behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. They do everything from acting as technical advisors to competitors, acting as client/judges, helping with admin tasks, liaising with schools/unis, and everything in between. If you’re interested in helping out in any capacity, register here.
Donate to our Enthusiasts Appeal (any-size donations, large or small) or join our Medal Appeal (£25 donation per sponsored medal) and UpAllNight Appeal (£99 per sponsored bed or £269 for 3 sponsored beds) Our big sponsors are wonderful but we rely on many small donations to fund extras like the pizzas that help our long-day events, or the travel costs to get volunteers to regional events. Accommodation is a big expense for our charity, funding hundreds of beds at finals and for volunteers at regionals, so donating to the ‘UpAllNight appeal’ makes a huge difference. Any donation, big or small, is very much appreciated. If you wish to make a donation directly (thank you!) you can contact Sam Hession at [email protected] or Jenny Lyons at [email protected].
Sponsors from Industry
Sponsors from industry providing donations/funding for the SSEF charity to run UKSDC events is an easy way for a company to show commitment to:
Geographical Equity of Opportunity: Many England regions, + Wales, Scotland and online for Northern Ireland. We also have EU and Africa programmes.
Economic Equity: it is free to UK students and their schools
Industry verisimilitude: collaborative, creative work in the service of a ‘client’.
Longitudinal engagement: we welcome new schools but some have participated since 2009, annually.
Multidisciplinary, multiskilled learning by experience, derived from a NASA team idea.
We report on key engagement statistics, for gender, region, interaction hours
All engagement hours are quality engagement, on complex challenges, over sustained hours.
Safeguarding provided by SSEF and students have a teacher/ chaperone known to them, in the vicinity of their activity at each event.
Challenge-based learning, collaborative working, student-led companies and high-calibre educational development are key characteristics of each UKSDC event.
BENEFITS TO SPONSORS: Sponsors advertising logos go on the certificate of participation received by over 100o enthusiast students annually, and on winners certificates. Industry sponsor’s staff can participate as ‘judges’ or advisors. Industry sponsor junior staff can gain experience in intensive collaborative environments via our events.
